Quick question — How much do you pay for organic celery in your area? I was at the Rusty Onion this morning and walked out shaking my head.
Now, I’m all about eating organic and non GMO and paying attention, and I understand that because we live on an island I can expect to pay “more.†But… $9.47 for a stalk of celery weighing just under 2 pounds! Really?
I am not a foodie, but I do like to eat. Actually I would be very happy if there was a people kibble on the market that could meet all our nutritional needs and, I would never have to think about how to feed myself again. Alas, only Peet gets the kibble in this house and Ken and I are forced to deal with the food thing.
I’m not a great cook. I do not enjoy the process and I really hate the part of the day when I have to figure out what to eat. Breakfast I’ve made simple, I eat the same thing most days; blueberries, yogurt and brazil nuts. For lunch a sandwich, and our dinner is usually a scrounge. I do snack a lot. I like popcorn and sweet things, but, also have the routine of keeping cut up red peppers, carrots and celery in the fridge so I can munch on them and get some veggies in me everyday.
Janice Wood taught me how to cook kale and rice, and I am happy to eat on a pot of soup or stew for days. We do eat meat most days and we are fortunate enough to be able to buy what we want, when we want it. I’m grateful to be able to spend some extra money and buy an already roasted chicken, meatloaf, or ready made salad in a bag.
But… I draw the line at paying $9.47 for celery. The line is drawn!
