To quote Homer, Jim or Ken (I can never keep those wise guys straight), “Stupid Nature!â€
The robin at the window is steadfast and constant about slamming his head into the living room window, shitting all over the training room door, and driving us nuts.
I am reminded of a friend I had years ago named JB.
JB had a lot of problems and was diagnosed as a schizophrenic. For the most part we got a long quite well, then there were times it was hard and even danergous to be around her. But the story that made me think of her today was the time we were sitting at a meeting together. A man behind us was pacing and JB was going mad with frustration. She was tapping her fingers, chewing her lip, and I thought she was going to lose it on this guy. All she could focus on was the sound of his boots as he walked back and forth and it consumed her.
I reached over to her, touched her hand and said, “Listen to something else.â€
It was as if magic happened. She shook her head, sat upright, focused on something else, and all was right with the world.
Today with the incessant bang, bang, bang, bam, bam, bam this nutty bird is making, I will take my own advice and listen to something else. Perhaps Elvis or Aretha.
Bird sex season can’t last forever!
