January 2nd, 2014 by Jan

My niece Kayleen fills out this questionnaire each new year. I like questionnaires, so I think I’ll give it a go as well.

What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
I flew in a very small plane, on and off the hill in New Mexico, with pilots that looked to be about 12 years old! It actually was very cool.

Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make resolutions. Last’s years motto was Panoramic and it brought me great joy. I’m thinking  On y va or Allons-y! will hit the spot for 2014.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not close enough for me to notice.

Did anyone close to you die?
Liz Gurley, Ron Gregory, and Steve Stoddard to name a few.

What countries did you visit?
I went to the states quite often, and spent a lot of time in the world of the Coach.

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
I don’t think I lacked anything I wanted in 2013 and I doubt I will lack much this year.

What date(s) from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I really had a great time with Ken on the Alaskan cruise, and also on the road trip we took in the RV. Why? Have you ever hung around Ken? He’s fun.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Hmmmmm. Not sure I achieved anything in particular. We did make the decision to put the house on the market and leave Bowen Island.

What was your biggest failure?
I’m still wearing the same size pants as last year.
See, I have a nice pair of jeans in the bottom drawer that I say, I’d like to get into.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Early last spring – I had the flu, but it was more like the plague, it was bad, but for the most part I am strong and healthy.

What was the best thing you bought?
Beautiful black leather boots. Love them.

Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Some of folks at the O. I Salute!

Whose behaviour appalled you?
Some of the folks at the O.

Where did most of your money go?
On a new roof, into an old car, and on some fun trips with Ken.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Thechurchoftheearlysunrise!

What song will always remind you of 2013?
Not so much a particular song, but listening to Ken play guitar, is really nice.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same fat.
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Hmmmm… I have no answer.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Maybe, driving the car.

Did you fall in love in 2013?
I stayed in love. Going on 31 years!

What was your favourite TV program?
Same ole, same ole… Perry Mason and the Waltons.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No.

What was the best book you read?
I read a lot of good books this last year. I can’t remember the titles of them. Oh – The 100 Year Old Man Who Crawled Out a Window and Disappeared, was fun. Humans of New York is wonderful, and Pretty Pictures by Marian Bantjes blew my mind.

What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
I really want to conduct a choir. Really.

What did you want and get?
I want less stuff and slowly am making it so.

What did you want and not get?
To fit into those jeans that are in the bottom drawer.

What was your favourite film of this year?
I liked Lincoln and Flight – mostly because  I saw them in a theatre. I walked out of at least three movies that I can think of. Francis Ha was good. I don’t have a favourite film. I saw Love Actually for the first time, and it seems I can sit through the ending of Shawshank Redemption again and again.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 58 – again. I thought I was 58 last year, so it was a bit of a disappointment to realize I’d be 58 again. ☺ Moser turned one the same week, so we shared a cake.

What one thing would have made the year immeasurably more satisfying?
2013 was a good year, still, I’d always take more time with Sandie!

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
About that same as always, hair pulled back, long sleeve turtle neck shirt, jeans and Keens on my feet. I probably won’t be changing this any time soon, unless Stacy and Clinton give me $5,000. and a trip to NYC.

What political issue stirred you the most?
I really hate Steven Harper. On Bowen Island, the docks out at Cape Roger Curtis just pissed me off. And do not get me started on “legitimate rape”.

Who did you miss?
I miss seeing Dorian as often as I use to, and Jim and heather, and Rhonda and Lisa.
And….I miss my mom.

Who was the best new person you met?
Great question. I’m going to go with Tess Taylor.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
I have no regrets or resentments with any family member, and that’s really saying something!

Allons-y and On y va!
