To be a good friend you really just have to pay attention.
Yesterday I was told by four different people that I was a good friend. This is a really nice thing to hear, but I don’t think I did anything special. I just paid attention to the people I love in my life.
Wishing someone a Happy birthday, driving someone to the Doctor, or giving a present isn’t a big deal. What is a big deal and what does make a difference is knowing whose birthday it is, taking the time to drive, and remembering that so and so said, they really needed something that you have. And then acting on it.
If that makes me a good friend, then yay! My practice is working; I’m paying attention.
Paying attention is everything. And you are a good friend.
