A tai chi class in North Vancouver was started well over 10 years ago — a couple of teachers have come and gone over the time.
It’s the students who have stayed. A small group continues to practice and do the work in the Anne MacDonald Building every Wednesday evening. The dedication they have, and how deep they are willing to dig into this art is worth shouting about. They practice together, with guidance and without. There are no gaps, interruptions or unevenness in their commitment.
There’s an old saying, something like, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.â€
I’ve always maintained the truth of that statement because I believe there are teachers all over the world practicing in empty studios and classrooms; waiting — hoping, a student will walk in and want to learn. I know I have taught in many an empty room over the years.
Last night, the saying took a bit of a turn for me.
It also seems true, that when the teacher is ready — the students will be there as well.
